Information for school leavers considering an apprenticeship or traineeship
Are you about to finish school and are considering undertaking a vocational education and training (VET) pathway, such as an apprenticeship or traineeship? Or are you still weighing up your future career and study options and simply want to know whether VET is right for you?
HVTC offer apprenticeships and traineeships across a diverse range of industries and occupations, from electrical, mechanical and horticulture to business administration, human resources and hospitality. We place you with a business (the host employer) for on-the-job practical training while you complete your formal qualification through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). There are many reasons why you might consider taking on an apprenticeship or traineeship. You could be a hands-on learner and think you are better suited to a VET program where you can hone your skills on the job. You might be leaning towards a particular career path but want the opportunity to try it out first before you fully commit to employment and/or long-term study. Or perhaps you want to get some practical experience in an area that interests you, with the option to undertake additional studies at a later time? No matter the reason, VET pathways can support you in your transition from school to work, while giving you paid work experience, a new suite of skills that you can take anywhere and a nationally recognised qualification that together will put you ahead of the competition when applying for jobs in your chosen field. If you do a great job, your host employer might offer you a permanent role upon completion of your training.
